Cardboard Boat Race Challenge

This is an annual event in Saskatoon for Grade 7 and 8 students to teach structure and design in a fun and meaningful way.  Students construct their vessel using only cardboard, duct tape and packing tape during the morning session, and then put them to the test in the pool during the afternoon session.  Last year, over 1,400 students participated in the events.  This year we have 10 days of excitement with 48 teams per day which means over 1,900 students!

APEGS (Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan) and school divisions  have provided judges for the event for the past 5 years, and is a great way to promote engineering & geoscience and connect with students and teachers.  Judges are assigned to evaluate the build during the construction in the morning, and assist with timing the races in the afternoon.
